Once a year my work brings me to Beijing, China. This year was not different and for the fourth time in a row I had the luxury to stay at the Intercontinental Beijing Beichen. Weather in Beijing can be strange, each year I visited it was different (all time in November). Look at the following three images: smog, clear sky and snow, each taken from my room which was each year the same one.
The hotel located just across the street of the Olympic Park which I finally had the chance to explore this year (read here). I love the Intercontinental Beijing Beichen and I will show you around in the review below.
The hotel
As said the hotel is located at the Olympic Park where it was build prior to the Summer Olympics in 2008. It is partly integrated with the Beijing National Convention Center. Located a 30-60 minute drive from the airport as well from the start of downtown. This time depends heavily on traffic as everywhere in Beijing. The hotel is very modern with a huge lobby decorated with marble. I was warmly greeted back to the hotel by the staff. The concierge explained me a bit about the Olympic Park I wanted to go see. He even remembered me from two years back! All service is just top at the Intercontinental Beijing Beichen!
The rooms at Intercontinental Beijing Beichen
The rooms are modern and large. As an IHG Spire member I got upgraded to a nice studio suite. If you travel a lot; be sure to be member and get status and points. A large sitting area with big TV and a desk to do my work. The bed was very comfortable and my back pain disappeared. I love rain forest showers and it was present here in the bathroom as was a separate bath. The bathroom amenities were plentyfull and I did not see any missing. All together a perfect room!
Facilities at Intercontinental Beijing Beichen
The Intercontinental Beijing Beichen offers a wide variety of facilities. I did not try the pool and gym myself but they look very good. The SPA I did try and was of outstanding service. I have just one remark that pricing is a bit high for Chinese standards but the quality pampering justifies this. The hotel offers further various business facilities, ballrooms and more which I myself did not need for my visit.
Dining & Drinking at Intercontinental Beijing Beichen
The Intercontinental Beijing Beichen offers various food and beverage outlets. I never tried the Italian restaurant because I prefer to eat local dishes when travelling. As all the others are of outstanding quality the Italian must be also. I always love to grab a noodle soup for lunch at the lobby bar between meetings. It gives you new energy and it’s quick. The Chinese restaurant serves traditional Chinese dishes of outstanding quality. Breakfast; I normally take it in the club lounge which has a bit smaller assortment at the buffer but anything missing can be ordered. Of course I had to try the main buffet too. What a choice! Most memorable the egg station with many different eggs! First time ever I saw that! Nothing than positive notes on the food and beverage department.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a luxury hotel near the Olympic Park area than Intercontinental Beijing Beichen should be your choice. Perfect rooms and friendly staff made my stay very comfortable. The food and beverage outlets are perfect and lots of facilities available. I hope to return next year to Beijing and possible other parts of China!
