Guangzhou is a city in south China just north of Hong Kong. My latest China trip with the family brought me there. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Center. I booked an apartment with two bedrooms. A good choice I can tell you first hand. Why? I show you in this Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Center hotel review.
The hotel
The Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Center with its 67 stories was once the tallest building in Guangzhou. If you ask any taxi driver to bring you to the 67 story building they will know where you want to go. The location is very convenient with all places of interest a short taxi ride away. The airport and train station are both a 30-45 minute ride out of the city center.
The staff greeted me warmly when I entered the beautiful lobby. It’s spacious and nicely decorated with warm colors. Our apartment was on the 58th floor with access to the club lounge just two floors down. At the roof there is a helipad which gives very nice views over the city. Maybe if you ask the staff friendly you can have a look there. It’s not in use at the moment as the government has forbidden heli traffic but it would shorten a ride to the airport to a fraction of the time. Altogether the hotel is well designed and breathes a pleasant atmosphere.
The rooms at Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Center
Traveling with a family requires always two rooms or a suite with two bedrooms. At the Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Center I booked an apartment. It had two bedrooms and also a living room with kitchen. The kitchen we did not really use except the washing machine which came in handy to get some clothes cleaned. The apartment was very large and spacious enough for a family of four. The kids went in the bedroom with two beds which had a separate bathroom. I had the master bedroom with my wife which also had a bathroom with a bath and shower. The bathrooms are modern and elegant with all amenities one would expect. I always like to move some work in the evening and the living area was perfect for this. Updating social media on the couch, typing this review with a coffee on the dining table. Just perfect. The bedrooms are smaller as a regular hotel room but as they only serve to sleep they are still pretty large. The comfortable beds got us some good rest after exploring Guangzhou city.
Facilities at Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Center
The Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Center has a heated outdoor swimming pool which is open year round. If you like to do exercise the gym has an extensive variety of equipment. It’s recently renovated and very modern. Outside there is also a tennis court if you would like to play tennis. The SPA amongst some other facilities are externally operated. The SPA is pretty huge and I enjoyed a great massage there. The quality and service are of high standards. I did not try the swimming pool or gym though. The Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Center offers enough quality facilities to its visitors.
Dining & Drinking at Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Center
The Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Center has a Chinese restaurant, all day dining restaurant and a hotpot restaurant. I tried the Chinese restaurant which quality is very good and reasonable priced. The lobby bar is a nice place for an evening cocktail or a coffee during the day. As usual I added club lounge access to my stay. The breakfast is much more private and in the afternoon they serve cocktails and snacks. I can do quite some work quickly in such a private area after a long day of leisure activities. If the hotel dining options are not enough then there are many options within walking distance. In case you really want, the first McDonalds of Guangzhou is located in the same complex as the hotel. All in all enough options to go dining or drinking.
Conclusion
Guangzhou is not the first destination for many tourists but it’s worth a short stay. To stay central I can highly recommend the Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Center. Great location, comfortable rooms and a lot of facilities including restaurants. I enjoyed my stay a lot and will choose again the Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Center if I return to Guangzhou.
