INDONESIA – Intercontinental Jakarta Midplaza; a central luxury business & leisure hotel

Intercontinental Hotels are like a second home for me. My South East Asia trip with my daughter included a three night stay in Jakarta, Indonesia. Time to try the Intercontinental Jakarta Midplaza. We enjoyed our stay at this luxury hotel in downtown Jakarta. I share with you my experience but first let’s start with a video impression.

The hotel

The Intercontinental Jakarta Midplaza is located in downtown Jakarta within the Sudirman and Thamrin area. It’s a business hotel but perfect for leisure trips too. Jakarta is a city where nothing is within walking distance and due to the central location of the hotel one can easily reach all places quickly. This is pending the terrible traffic of course 🙂 The international airport is a 50 minute drive during regular traffic. I suggest taking an Uber taxi (sign up here to get 10 euro/usd credit). I was charged 85.000 Rupiah which is not even 6 euro for the ride. The hotel is a modern building with a large lobby. I was personally greeted by the guest relations manager by name. It’s something that shows that the hotel cares about its guests. My room was already prepared and check-in was taken care off by the staff while I was escorted to my studio suite. The common areas are decorated with light and dark marbles combined with Indonesian woods. I like a modern international design with local details.

The rooms at Intercontinental Jakarta

I was given a studio suite which was on the 10th floor of the Intercontinental Jakarta. The rooms are located up to the 14th floor; all higher floors are apartments. It was a large room where my daughter and I felt at home. It had a separate seating area, a large desk and a smaller desk just next to the bathroom. This gave us space so that I could also do some work and she could relax. The room has a beautiful carpet and is decorated with Indonesian wood. As for the bed it was a bit soft for me personally but I know that my preference is different as most people. I like a bed a bit hard. Our view was on the beautiful pool which of course made my daughter happy. She didn’t know there was a huge pool in this city center business hotel. The large bathroom has a separate bath and shower. After a shower we smelled again “Intercontinental” as the amenities they use worldwide. Altogether a comfortable large room where we enjoyed our three nights.

Facilities at Intercontinental Jakarta

I, but my daughter even more, was surprised by the large and beautiful pool at the Intercontinental Jakarta. We spend two afternoons at the pool cooling down after walking all day in the heat of Jakarta. I worked a bit from my private cabana while my daughter enjoyed the pool. Just next to the pool is a large gym which I didn’t use. The Intercontinental Jakarta has a luxury SPA. Their massages made me relax and my muscle pain disappear. My skin felt like reborn due to the quality products. At the lower level of the hotel are some additional (external) restaurants and a small supermarket. Further the hotel offers the usual business facilities.

Dining & Drinking at Intercontinental Jakarta

The Intercontinental Jakarta has six food and beverage outlets. I was only able to try four of them. The last two which I didn’t try are at the lower level and are a pastry shop and a place for a quick lunch. I can see myself going there if I would be visiting for business and needed to grab a quick lunch and coffee. The first evening I had dinner at the Italian restaurant. A tasty salad as a starter and pasta as a main. The all-day dining restaurant I used for breakfast. A huge selection of dishes from all corners of the world. Quick service and very tasty. One night we had a Jakarta street food tour (which I recommend doing) and the other night we planned to go to the all-day dining restaurant. We planned but my daughter wanted to buy a shirt at the Hard Rock Cafe Jakarta so we went there instead. In the evening it’s very pleasant to have a drink at the outdoor bar adjacent the lobby bar. It’s designed after the traditional bird cages you find on Bali. The lights in the trees give a nice romantic atmosphere. As I wrote above we took breakfast once in the all-day dining restaurant, the other two times in the club lounge. I like some privacy and fewer crowds at breakfast so access to the club lounge is a must for me. In the afternoon they serve snacks and cocktails but we just spend the afternoons at the pool. A lot of food outlets and if it’s not enough there is an unlimited choice in Jakarta for food.

Conclusion

Jakarta is a large city and it’s difficult to get an understanding of its layout. A central located hotel is a must and the Intercontinental Jakarta Midplaza has a central location. They offer various business facilities but also plenty for the leisure traveler like a beautiful pool and luxury SPA. The various food and beverage outlets serve quality dishes and fresh cocktails. The rooms are modern with Indonesian details. If you are looking for a luxury hotel in the huge city of Jakarta then I recommend the Intercontinental Jakarta Midplaza. I enjoyed staying and I’m sure you will too.
