#TBT [ThrowBackThursday] week 12 of 2015. This week, something I remember from our visit to Malta, 1 of the 52 countries I visited prior to 2015.
Shooting canons with my son
What is more joyful for a boy of 11 years to shoot with big cannons? At Fort Rinella you can, for a small fee, shoot with big cannons and also with old guns. We went there one afternoon to see the play and to participate in the shooting which was one thing my son simply wanted to do there. They have also one of the largest cannons in the world; but this one shoots only once a year. We had great fun with this father & son activity there. If you are visiting Malta be sure to not miss this spectacle at Fort Rinella.
Swimming in the blue lagoon with my daughter
My little princess, then 7 years, wanted to go swim in the blue lagoon. This lagoon is located between Malta and Gozo on the island of Comino. What a princess wants, you of course do, duh. So we got on the boat from Gozo in the morning to avoid the crowds. If you visit Malta and you are also on Gozo some of the days, do this trip from there to be there before the crowds and get a place. We had lots of fun there, swimming in the crystal clear waters. The agreement was that my daughter would say when she wanted to leave. In short: the last boat. After a long day the good thing is that she slept early and I could do my wine tasting at the Kempinski hotel on Gozo.
Almost not visiting the Hypogeum of Hal-Saflieni
The Hypogeum together with the megalithic temples of Malta are a must see. The Hypogeum is so special as this is the only underground temple of its kind in the world. Build over 5000 years ago it is so vulnerable that only a few people can enter every hour and tickets are sold-out months before. When we booked our trip a month or two before we visited these tickets were sold out complete online. We also not wanted to stand in line at 7 AM in the morning to maybe get 1 of the 15 tickets for the next day sold at the spot. I decided to e-mail the concierge of the hotel Intercontinental in Malta if there is an option that they have connections to the Hypogeum to get extra tickets. They wrote back that they would go stand in line for us to buy tickets on the spot not charging anything except the ticket price. When we arrived to the hotel the concierge directly contacted us that he had tickets for the next day. We were so happy that this was arranged by them! What a service and this made our trip complete as the Hypogeum is THE main historic place to see on Malta.
