Ever wanted to stay in a UNESCO World Heritage Site? This is your chance. The Intercontinental Lijiang Ancient Town Resort is located inside the old town of Lijiang. I stayed there for three nights to explore the area during my annual three week trip with my son. This year we travelled 2 weeks through the Yunnan province. The hotel is THE place to explore Lijiang old town too. We had a great experience which I will share with you.
The Hotel
The hotel is located at the south end of the ancient Lijiang town with direct access to it. A short driveway takes you to the entrance. The lobby is a huge area build in traditional local style. From the lobby you walk into the streets and garden of the hotel. The rooms are spread out over different traditional houses. If you walk around the hotel you feel like you walk in the old town but without the many tourists! A pleasant area to get away from the busy streets and indulge yourself in the luxury the hotel offers. Intercontinental Lijiang Ancient Town Resort is completely different as many other Intercontinentals I have visited before. You will be spoiled, guaranteed!

The rooms of the Intercontinental Lijiang Ancient Town Resort are spread over the many traditional houses in the resort. The rooms are modern but decorated in a traditional way with a lot of local elements. We spend our nights in a luxury suite. The huge living area has a great view over ancient town with the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the back. A table that doubles as a chess board was pretty cool. The bedroom was large with a comfortable bed and en suite bathroom. A huge bath, a rainforest shower and the best amenities makes this luxury suite very complete. I felt really at home and all the space makes it very pleasant – a perfect room it was!

The Intercontinental Lijiang Ancient Town Resort has the only swimming pool in the ancient town! How cool is that? Waking up in the morning with a view on the snow mountain and go for a swim or a workout at the gym. The Tea Tree Spa is located in the center of the resort. It offers various luxury treatments for him and her. After a long day of sightseeing at Lashi Lake a massage was a great way to get the muscles relaxed. If this is in a resort like this I’m enjoying it even more. Just the best service!

Dining & Drinking at Intercontinental Lijiang Ancient Town Resort
The Intercontinental Lijiang Chinese restaurant offers a huge variety of local dishes. Try the local ham! This is cured for half a year in ashes in a closed box. The taste is magnificent. For Western food there is a Western restaurant and the lobby bar is a nice place to relax with a tea or a cocktail. I always like to add club lounge access to my stays meaning I can have breakfast in a more private area. Plus that during the day there is tea and cold drinks available and in the evening cocktails and snacks. If you’re an IHG member the club lounge often is included. With all those local flavors and dishes you do not have to starve. I was impressed by the quality and affordable pricing.
Conclusion
The three days at the Intercontinental Lijiang Ancient Town Resort went so quick I did not want to leave. It is a truly unique hotel offering luxury in the middle of an ancient town. It’s a place I can recommend to everyone if you are looking for luxury but also enjoy seeing culture which is just a step away. 100% satisfied!
