CHINA – Intercontinental Lhasa Paradise Tibet, luxury at the rooftop of the world

Hotel Review - Intercontinental Lhasa Paradise

The Intercontinental Lhasa Paradise for sure can be called the biggest luxury hotel at the roof top of the world. My recent annual trip with my son brought me a week to Tibet and we stayed at this hotel. In this blog review I will share with you my experience.

The hotel

When you look at the hotel you directly say WOW! The building has a huge lobby area covered by a glass pyramid shaped structure. Inside you find even a small Tibetan village which functions as restaurants, bars and other facilities. On both sides there are four large wings in a triangle shape representing the snowy mountain tops. The hotel houses over 400 rooms per wing totalling to over 1300 luxury rooms in Tibet. The whole hotel has a great Tibetan look with also some Western style in the rooms. The location on the outskirts of Lhasa does not form any problem as it’s a 5-10 minute taxi drive to the center. The Intercontinental Lhasa Paradise is part of the IHG Group and can definitely be called a true paradise.

The rooms at Intercontinental Lhasa Paradise

The rooms of the Intercontinental Lhasa Paradise are located in the four wings. A spacious hallway with high ceilings takes you to the rooms which also have high ceilings. We stayed at a nice suite with a living area and a separate bedroom. The rooms have more Western details and are very spacious. Our large living area had a sitting area and separate lounge area with en suite restroom. The bedroom with the comfortable bed and desk was more than large enough for us. The bathroom with bubble bath, separate rainforest shower was probably double the size I would expect it to be. Tibet can get very cold so the rooms are equipped with an electric fireplace which, when turned on, gives a nice atmosphere. I could have stayed longer in this room as it made me feel at home!

Facilities at Intercontinental Lhasa Paradise

The facilities at the Intercontinental Lhasa Paradise are all that you may expect from a resort hotel. The hotel has opened its doors only during the last quarter of 2014. The swimming pool and spa are yet to be opened (later in 2015) and once they are the hotel will be over complete with facilities. I did have a sneak peak at the pool construction and this looked very promising! A free shuttle bus is offered in the morning and afternoon to Lhasa downtown. Next to the many leisure facilities there is a large range of facilities for business travelers as well. Due to the altitude of the hotel (at 3600 meters) each room has a button to call for oxygen in case you get altitude sickness. It is a resort you will be taken care off in luxury!

Dining & Drinking

Every day there is a large buffet in the main dining area inside the huge lobby area. You can choose here from Japanese cuisine, a Western and Chinese buffet and the best desserts from around the world. In the Chinese restaurant you can order a la carte signature Chinese dishes. I found the food of very high quality and make sure you try the Yak dishes for which Tibet is famous. A tea lounge, cocktail bar and cigar lounge give a variety of opportunities for a great evening with friends. If you prefer a more private area you can play mahjong in one of the private rooms, or go for a billiard in the billiard room. For breakfast there is a large selection of Chinese and Western dishes and eggs and noodles are cooked on the spot. My son and I enjoyed the dinners after a the long day trips we did in Tibet.

Conclusion

If you are looking for luxury in Tibet this is definitely the hotel I can recommend. The resort offers everything you need to relax at the roof top of the world. Spacious rooms (the standard rooms already have 45 sq. meters); comfortable beds and outstanding service will make your trip a dream trip. The location is an easy start point to explore Lhasa and the surroundings. I highly recommended the Intercontinental Lhasa Paradise Tibet and I hope to be back soon in Lhasa.
