In Prague it is nice to be close to all the attractions, restaurants and nightlife. Intercontinental Prague offers this due to its location. It is a luxury hotel in the center and I have the opportunity to explore it allmost each year when I visit Prague. I share my experience with this hotel below to help you decide on your hotel choice. I’m sure you will like it! Let’s start with a video impression which I made during my last visit. I still want to visit Prague during Christmas time and the Intercontinental Prague advertised with great offers for dinner and stay. Unfortunately I’ll be in the far east but if you are looking for a Christmas holiday destination: try Prague!
The hotel
The Intercontinental Prague was built in the late 60’s in a Brutalist style and opened in 1974. Next to century old buildings it fits in without disturbing the area. Interesting to know is that the building is actually on a protected list by the conservation office of Prague. The hotel is just 20 minutes away from the airport and centrally located. By car you can use the underground parking of the hotel. The Charles Bridge and Castle are within walking distance, a walk I did myself (read here). The Old Town and the area beyond start just opposite the hotel with a 2 minute walk to Old Town Square. I noticed the new lobby during my recent stay. It’s much more modern now and looks more spacious. I was welcomed very friendly as assisted immediately with my luggage and check-in. Very smooth!
The rooms at Intercontinental Prague
The rooms are very comfortable. I have stayed at the hotel several times now and seen the variety of rooms. This time I got upgraded from a regular room to an executive suite which is around 70 square meters (huge!!) due to my status with the IHG Loyalty Program. This room is a deluxe room with additional living room with dining table and a relax lounge area. Further it has a big hall/corridor with access to a second restroom. The bathroom was large with separate shower and a jacuzzi bath. Love that! Beds are comfortable with a pillow menu. The desk in the bedroom is appreciated, so I could do some work in privacy if there are others in the living area. Many windows made the rooms very light which I like so I wake up in the morning naturally. Of course there are also the other amenities like a safe, minibar, coffee maker which you expect from a luxury hotel. A perfect room, also for a longer stay.
Facilities at Intercontinental Prague
The Intercontinental Prague has a wide range of facilities of which the swimming pool with glass sliding roof is a topper! A large garden is open in summer to relax in the sunshine and dip in the adjacent swimming pool. The gym is large with a cardio zone and also aerobics are possible in a seperate area. There are instructors on site to help you achieve your goals. The SPA offers various massages or beauty treatments with a sauna and solarium on site too. I cannot think of something missing. Do try the massage, I loved the Thai massage!
Dining & Drinking at Intercontinental Prague
I upgraded my room with club lounge access where I was able to do some work and have breakfast and evening snacks & cocktails in privacy. A club lounge for me is very important in a hotel. Of course I had to try also the regular buffet breakfast downstairs in the Primator Restaurant which did have a bit more choice but of course was more crowded. The restaurant on the ninth floor called Zlatá Praha Restaurant offers a great dining experience. If weather allows you can sit outside on the terrace too. I tried it the previous years and also again this year and their steak tartare starter is terrific. As dessert I took the crème brulé which was caramelized in a very special way, just try it! Wine lovers will have a lot to choose from with over 100 wines on the menu. The hotel bar called Duke’s Bar & Café I located next to the lobby and serves small food all day. In the evening it’s a nice place to relax with one of their cocktails or just a Czech beer. Enough choices I would say!
Conclusion
Intercontinental Prague is a hotel I would recommend to everyone who is looking for a luxury hotel at a great location in Prague. With all sightseeing around the corner makes it a pleasant location. The rooms are very comfortable and the facilities are perfect. I cannot think of something that was missing. The quality of the food at breakfast or the restaurant is of high quality. My five night stay was perfect at every detail; I will stay again for sure!
