Africa is the seconds largest continent and has 54 countries, the most on any continent. This Africa travel guide helps you plan your trip. The continent is well known for its safari’s spotting the big five but there is much more. Stunning desert landscapes, dense jungles, rivers, waterfalls, and a huge variety in culture. Not every country is easy to travel to due some turmoil here and there, but the people are friendly. Once you get used to travelling through Africa you’ll want to go back and explore more.
Africa can be divided into six regions. North Africa which border the Mediterranean Sea and where you’ll find many Roman and old Egyptian ruins. The countries just below the northern ones form the Sahel which is mostly desert and savannah. Then it’s West Africa with it’s beautiful coast line and lots of colonial history. Central Africa is the heart of Africa and East Africa those countries that border the Indian Ocean. Eastern Africa is the easiest place to travel to for a great safari trip. Southern Africa is also a great destination for a first time Africa trip.
With 54 countries it takes some time to visit them all. I’ll cover those I have visited but as my business part of travel doesn’t take me much to Africa I don’t visit that much for leisure. Those I have visited I’ll cover in this Africa travel guide.
