If it wasn’t for the French colonization in the 19th century the Kingdom of Cambodia might have ceased to exist entirely. Luckily it didn’t and it’s a great destination as you can read in this Cambodia Travel Guide. Check my 9 days in Siem Reap itinerary and Ho Chi Minh City to Siem Reap by Mekong Cruise itinerary for a complete overview.
After the fall of the Khmer Empire, Cambodia had a period of dark ages. Both the Siamese and Vietnamese Empires were on a quest to take all of Cambodia. However, after the French colonization the Kingdom of Cambodia was saved but still had some turbulent times. It was in 1993 that better times started.
Today you can see the remains of the once mighty Khmer Empire with Angkor Wat as the main attraction. In Cambodia you can also witness poverty, beautiful nature, have great food and meet friendly people. I visited the Kingdom of Cambodia and I loved it. It’s culture, food and people. This Cambodia Travel Guide contains all my stories.
