The Federated States of Micronesia (also simply called Micronesia) is a country that consists of over 600 islands grouped in 4 states. Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae are all included in this Micronesia FSM travel guide. These islands cover a large area of ocean east of the Philippines all the way to the north east of the Solomon Islands. The Federated States of Micronesia have been ruled by British, German and Japan before independence in 1986.
Yap is of particular interest for tourists due to its top diving sites (including Manta Rays) and its stone money cultural heritage. Pohnpei is also of interest because of the Nan Madol archeological site; is it Atlantis? The other two Micronesia states are worth visiting if you’re into diving!
It’s not easy to get to the main islands and those smaller islands are even harder to get to. Yap can be reached from either Palau or Guam on a twice weekly flight only. Chuuk and Pohnpei can be reached by Air Niugini from Papua New Guinea and the United Airlines island hopper from Guam or Hawaii which also stops at Kosrae. These are the best ways to arrive! Keep in mind these flights are not daily. Enjoy my Micronesia FSM travel guide which include the best of the Federated States of Micronesia; it’s so remote and beautiful!
