Utrecht is a beautiful city in the Netherlands, centrally located for a great weekend city trip. When I visited with my daughter (read the trip report) I stayed at the Eye Hotel overnight. This was a perfect choice and I share with you why!
The Eye Hotel
The Eye Hotel is ideal located in an upcoming neighborhood of Utrecht. It is within walking distance of the train stain and the center is just around the corner. The hotel has its own parking at just a 5 minute walk from the hotel and is for Utrecht very reasonable priced. The Eye Hotel is situated in a monumental property from the 17th century. It was a noble’s house at first and then served as an eye hospital in Utrecht, hence the name. The property came into disrepair and in 2015 it was opened as the Eye Hotel. Beautifully restored into its old glory. With a total of 36 rooms it is a great boutique hotel in the center of Utrecht. In every common area as well the rooms you find details related to the eye remembering the past of the property.
The rooms of the Eye Hotel
The rooms of the Eye Hotel are bright and modern with details everywhere related to the eye. You will find glasses, images, photos and other artifacts from the old eye hospital. I spend a night with my daughter overnight in Utrecht and we had a room in the front of the hotel looking over the square in front where on Saturdays there is a “lapjesmarkt” (a textile market). Our room had large windows which I like so that I can wake up in the morning light. The bathroom is directly adjacent to the room with a rainforest shower which is always a plus for me in a hotel. A comfortable bed together with all the rest make it a room you feel happy in.
Dining & Drinking at the Eye Hotel
Next to the lobby there is the breakfast area. A nice croissant with a fresh orange juice will have your day start well. I need always one or two double espresso and the ones in the Eye Hotel were pretty good to wake me up. During the day you can have a coffee or tea there but you can make those also in your room. In case you get thirsty you can get a beer, wine or soft drinks in the lobby.
Conclusion
The Eye Hotel is a unique boutique hotel in the center of Utrecht. Ideal for any traveler who has some business or leisure time in the city. The decorations make it very special and the service is outstanding. I, but also my daughter, enjoyed staying here a lot and would for sure return in case we need a bed again in Utrecht.
