Business trip to Russia, St. Petersburg with a one day off before business started. Went to see Peterhof: great palaces and gardens.
UNESCO World Heritage Sites visited: St. Petersburg City Centre & Monuments (see all UNESCO sites here)
Day 1 – Arrival to St. Petersburg
Arrival late evening on KLM flight to St. Petersburg, stay at the Holiday Inn where also the convention was held. No jetlag, but, summertime meaning no darkness in the night. First time this is a really strange feeling, walking on the street midnight and still full light. You loose track of time!
Day 2 – Peterhof
Build by Peter the Great, a Russian Tsar. The palaces and gardens are beautiful; the Versailles of Russia for sure! We took the fast boat from St. Petersburg, a really Soviet looking boat. From Peterhof you have a great look over the Gulf of Finland. We had a bit of a rainy day but nevertheless worthwhile to go. After a small stroll through St. Petersburg, definitely have to go back one day.
Day 3 through 7 – Business and Departure
Lots of great business, Russia is booming for business. On the last day, had short time to get to the plane. This was bad planning and stress as immigration was terrible and chaotic. Did catch the plane in time tough.
