Singapore is one of those countries I like to visit once a year; I just love Singapore. This year however I visited it twice: once during a business trip and now with my family. I booked cheap business class tickets as usual; to Vietnam. On the way back from Vietnam we had a stopover in Singapore which was a nice weekend escape. The Westin Singapore was our home for two nights. A perfect place for a weekend escape. Let me show you why, but first let’s start with a video impression.
The hotel
The Westin Singapore is located just minutes’ walk from China Town, Marina Bay and the downtown core of Singapore. A metro station is just around the corner of the skyscraper the Westin is located in. Most of Singapore is just a stone’s throw away whether it be by walking or by metro. The Westin Singapore doesn’t occupy the whole building but only the upper floors. They give beautiful views on the Marina Bay with the opera house and Singapore Flyer clearly visible. The lobby is large and modern with floor to ceiling windows giving a view over the Singapore harbor. I booked a family weekend escape meaning there was a nice gift for the kids in the connecting rooms. My daughter loved the Westin teddy bear as you can see in one of the photo’s below. Guides to nearby attractions were provided too which recommend to go to Universal Studios Singapore, Port of Lost Wonders, S.E.A. Aquarium and more. I visit Singapore quite often for business but I had no clue about activities for kids. This information came in very handy and made our stay much more efficient.
The rooms at Westin Singapore
The Westin Singapore advertises with “sleep well in our signature Heavenly beds”. I can confirm their beds are very comfortable and do give a great night of sleep. The rooms are large with a large desk, flat screen TV and a seating area. My wife and daughter love to take a bath. The bathrooms had a large tub which was just perfect. The bathrooms have a separate rainforest shower so my son and I could use the bathroom at the same time. Personally I do not like carpets on the floor but this is just a personal thing. Even the airport in Singapore has carpet on the floor. The decoration is done in warm colors and the bathroom is made of white and dark marbles. A comfortable room.
Maybe you associate the Westin brand with business travels? I can guarantee that the Westin Singapore is a perfect place for a family weekend escape. My daughter loved the teddy bear in the room. They used the desks to play their favorite games if they weren’t at the pool. The hotel staff also perfectly knows where to go for kids’ activities. I, my kids and wife had a lot of fun at the Westin Singapore.
Facilities at Westin Singapore
The Westin Singapore has an awesome infinity pool at the 35th floor overlooking the Marina Bay. From the pool the view is amazing towards the Marina Bay where you can clearly see the Singapore Flyer and the opera house. At the pool the pool bar serves delicious food. I loved the burger; it was grilled to perfection. We spend quite some time at the pool especially the last day before our late check out.
On the 35th floor is also the well-equipped gym. Personally I find Singapore hot so it’s a relief to do some exercise inside where the air-conditioning works. Just next to the gym is the spa which offers a wide variety of treatments. I didn’t visit myself but my wife did and she told me her treatment was professional and relaxing. The pool, gym and spa made our stay very relaxing.
Dining & Drinking at Westin Singapore
The Westin Singapore has a total of 4 food outlets. At the ground floor is the Daily Treats which serves juices, smoothies and food following the Westin Well-Being Movement. At the 33rd floor is the Cook & Brew restaurant which I personally did not visit, I had breakfast and a dinner at the Seasonal Tastes on level 32. It serves a delicious buffet breakfast with choices from sushi, egg station, pastries, colt cuts and much more. Juices are pressed fresh and are full of flavor. On the 32nd floor just opposite the lobby is the Lobby Lounge. A perfect place for a champagne or a cocktail. I loved the afternoon tea with seafood, desserts and a glass of champagne while having a beautiful view over the harbor and beyond. Lots of options to dine and if you are looking for other places in Singapore then try one of the three restaurant hotspots in Singapore I wrote about earlier.
Conclusion
If you visit Singapore I highly recommend staying at the Westin Singapore. This includes family leisure trips; for example, a weekend escape. The Westin Singapore is totally prepared to make your stay memorable. I had a lot of fun with my family at the pool, gym and spa. The staff also showed us the places to go to in Singapore with kids. I hope to return one day whether it is for business or simply leisure.
